Museum of Scales: immerse yourself in 5,000 years of weighing history. We are proud to have been part of the last 70.

Founded in 1949, we at Coop Bilanciai have seen the future become the present and then the past. And it is because of this deep connection with history that we decided to support the Museum of Scales.

The first museum in the world dedicated entirely to scales and weighing systems.

A history that becomes a museum

Weighing instruments change over time. They evolve in design and are equipped with new technologies, never compromising on precision and reliability.

It is on this idea that the Museum of Scales is rooted.

Inaugurated in 1989, this repository of weighing history could only be born in Campogalliano: a city known internationally as the City of Scales precisely for its intense production of weighing systems.

For over 150 years!

Scale makers ourselves, for us at Coop Bilanciai it was natural to feel—right from the start—closely connected to the Museum.

And that is why we support its development, promoting its countless activities through various donations, such as antique weighing instruments, but also latest-generation load cells…

To write together the next chapter of metrology!

A museum that becomes the future

Museums are famous for being guardians of traditions, and the Museum of Scales fully fits this definition.

  • The library preserves over 9,000 sources from Roman times to the present day, with approximately 1,000 volumes and 2,500 documents (the oldest dating back to the sixteenth century)
  • The halls currently contain 220 weighing instruments from around the world, with over 1,300 in total
  • Multiple restoration activities are promoted to restore the scales of the past.

Yet, the focus is not only on yesterday. At the Museum of Scales, the foundations for our tomorrow are being laid.

Research activities, guided tours, educational workshops… are all essential moments for training the new generations of scale makers.

Exhibitions, events, and showcases complete this picture, at whose center always remains the desire and ability to innovate.
