Legal Metric Periodic Verification MO285

Our MO285 metrological laboratory is authorized to verify automatic and non-automatic weighing instruments.

The metrological laboratory of Coop Bilanciai (identification number 285) is authorized to verify automatic, non-automatic, and MID weighing instruments throughout Italy using masses verified by Legal Metrology (Regulation: Decree of March 28, 2000 No. 182 published in the Official Gazette No. 154 year 141° – Discipline: Decree of December 29, 1992 No. 517 published in the Official Gazette No. 306 of 12/31/1992).

EVERY YEAR
AUTOMATIC WEIGHING INSTRUMENTS:
CHECKWEIGHERS USED FOR CHECKING PREPACKAGED PRODUCTS; WEIGH PRICE LABELLERS**

EVERY 2 YEARS
OTHER TYPES OF AUTOMATIC
WEIGHING INSTRUMENTS (e.g., gravimetric fillers)

EVERY 3 YEARS
NON-AUTOMATIC WEIGHING INSTRUMENTS
(WEIGHBRIDGES, SCALES, WEIGHING PLATFORMS, etc.)

After any repair of instruments requiring the removal of protection seals (including electronic ones), the instrument owner must request a periodic verification within a maximum of 10 days.

** FOR INSTRUMENTS FOR WHICH THE VERIFICATION FREQUENCY HAS BEEN REDUCED DUE TO THE NEW DECREE, THE FIRST SUBSEQUENT
VERIFICATION MAY STILL BE CARRIED OUT WITHIN ONE YEAR
FROM THE ENTRY INTO FORCE OF THE DECREE ITSELF IF THE RELEVANT DEADLINE
EXPIRES EARLIER (article 18 paragraph 4).

PRACTICAL EXAMPLE:
A weigh price and labelling line verified in May 2016 (under National Decree) that had a 3-year expiration, with the entry into force of the new decree must be verified within one year from the entry into force of the decree itself, therefore by September 18, 2018.

TIMELINES FOR REQUESTING PERIODIC VERIFICATION
Owners of metric instruments for legal measurement functions must request, according to the deadlines established for the instrument type, periodic verification at least 5 working days before its expiration. The accredited body is required to perform the verification within 45 working days from the date of receipt of the request and must communicate the outcome to the Chamber of Commerce within 10 working days.

If guarantee seals have been removed for repairs or adjustment
orders, the verification request must be made within 10 working days from the repair.

Anyone using a metric instrument for legal measurement functions must:

  • at the time of starting to use the instrument, declare to the
Chamber of Commerce of their district the start and end date
    of use within 30 days
  • take care to maintain the verification mark
    affixed to the instrument
  • take care of the integrity of the protection seals including temporary ones
    applied by the repairer
  • ensure the correct functioning of the instrument and not use it
when detecting unreliability from a metrological point of view
  • keep the Metrological Logbook (mandatory document established by the new D.M. No. 93)
  • request periodic verification according to the timelines and frequency
    established (see paragraphs

It is the document on which all activities performed on the instrument must be recorded: repair interventions involving seal removal, periodic verification outcomes, outcomes of random checks performed by the Chamber of Commerce.

The metrological logbook may be issued by:

  • the body that will perform the first periodic verification after the entry into force of the D.M.
  • the Chamber of Commerce or laboratories performing periodic verification during the transitional period
  • the instrument manufacturer if deemed appropriate.
In case of a positive outcome, a self-adhesive label is applied, destructible upon removal, showing the expiration date in black on a green background and the logo of the body that performed the verification.
In case of a negative outcome, a self-adhesive label is applied, destructible upon removal, indicating the negative outcome in black on a red background.
Instruments with a negative periodic verification outcome CANNOT be used.
Once repaired, the repairer must affix a temporary seal and the instruments may be used with the repairer’s seals for a maximum of 10 days and, following the request for a new periodic verification (to be requested by the instrument owner within 10 working days from the completed repair) until its execution.
