TIMINGS FOR REQUESTING PERIODIC VERIFICATION
The owners of metric instruments for legal measurement functions must request, based on the terms established by the type of instrument, the periodic verification at least 5 working days before the expiry of the same, the accredited Body is obliged to carry out the verification within 45 working days from the date of receipt of the request and must communicate the result to the Chamber of Commerce within 10 working days.

If the warranty seals have been removed for repairs or orders for adjustment, the request for verification must be made within 10 working days of repair.

Anyone who uses a metric instrument for legal measurement functions must:

  • at the time of starting to use the tool declare to the
Chamber of Commerce of his or her constituency the starting date and purpose of use within 30 days
  • ensure to maintain the verification mark affixed to the instrument
  • take care of the integrity of the protective seals including the provisional ones applied by the repairer
  • ensure that the instrument is working correctly and not use it if you find it unreliable from a metrological point of view
  • keep the Metrological Booklet (mandatory document established by the new Ministerial Decree no. 93)
  • request periodic verification according to timing and frequency provided (see paragraphs

This is the document on which all the activities that are carried out on the instrument must be noted: repairs involving the removal of seals, the results of periodic checks, the results of random checks carried out by the Chamber of Commerce.

The metrological booklet can be issued:

  • by the Body that will carry out the first periodic verification after the entry into force of the Ministerial Decree.
  • by the Chamber of Commerce or by the laboratories that carry out periodic checks in the transitional period
  • by the manufacturer of the instrument if he deems it appropriate.
In the event of a positive outcome, a self-adhesive label is applied, which can be destroyed by removal, bearing the expiration date of the same, in black on a green background and the logo of the Body that carried out the verification.
In the event of a negative outcome, a self-adhesive label is applied, destructible upon removal, indicating the negative result in black on a red background. Instruments with a negative periodic verification result CANNOT be used. Once the repair has been completed, the repairer must affix a temporary seal and the instruments can be used, with the repairer’s seals, for a maximum of 10 days and, after the request for a new periodic verification (to be requested by the owner of the instrument within 10 working days from the repair) until the execution of the same.
